Wetland design

  Wetland for single household(sample design)

In order to develop a efficient and cost effective solutions for wastewater treatment in rural areas, ENVICARE and University of Aarhus is in the process of developing a single household treatment system based on the constructed wetland technology. The scope of work is to fulfill the demands of treatment as a ”SOP”. The test plan is build as a two-stage vertical constructed wetland with a post phosphor-filter. The capacity of the test system is 10-15 persons.

  • BOD is removed in an aerobic process in vertical filters.
  • Phosphor is precipitated as calcium phosphate in the second step.
  • Nitrogen is transformed to nitrate by microbiological processes in the vertical filters.
  • As the results of the recirculation nitrate is transformed to nitrogen in the settling tank.

The treatment plan is controlled by computer, and data from 20 different measuring points is collected in a data logger. The project is financed by the environmental agency.
